We were also fortunate enough to have two BT apprentices – Aaron and Shane – to lead some of the day.This is what Aaron has to say,
“A problem I used to find at school is that I wasn't very good at writing essays and putting my thoughts into words.Speaking to other people about their school experiences I have found many people had this problem as well.
I now work within a creative design team and one of my main jobs is creating storyboards to explain complicated scenarios, concepts and processes. I have found that using storyboards has really given me the ability to really show that I know what I'm talking about without having to produce long written descriptions or essays.
Anybody can storyboard, from the next van Gogh to someone with absolutely no artistic ability.Shane and myself plan to show this to the teachers in a workshop which will give them the ability to go away and use this technique in their classrooms.
I think most important thing is that, in a class room of 20 children there will always be the ones who stick out as 'top of the class'. Using storyboarding as a method of expressing ideas and understanding, the children who normally sit quietly at the back may suddenly become 'top of the class'.”
The scenarios that Aaron and Shane developed are attached as are the excellent photo movies you created on the day…I’ve also attached the mapping documents I did on the day – these were very quick mappings to the National Strategy Learning Objectives and the Functional Skills Standards for ICT – I’m very happy to receive comments/corrections on them!
